About

Chronic wounds account for ~5% of total U.S. healthcare expenditures and result in one amputation every 30 seconds worldwide. We helped develop a robotic medical device for automated treatment of chronic wounds to help prevent amputations in diabetics and other patients with chronic wounds, minimizing the need for antibiotics and avoiding painful medical procedures. The technology approach features a 6-axis robotic arm that enables it to perform automated debridements using a laser to burn the bacteria hiding under the antibiotic-resistant film. FDA clearance is expected in 2026.
