HUDD is a hyperlocal social networking platform created to help real neighbors, local communities, and small businesses connect in a trusted digital environment across Scandinavia. The client approached Snotor with a clear goal: build a privacy-first alternative to global social media platforms, where verified residents can discover what is happening nearby, communicate in real time, and interact with relevant local businesses without fake profiles, algorithms, or irrelevant content.

Snotor provided a dedicated team covering web development, iOS and Android app development, backend engineering, UX/UI design, QA, and long-term product support. Over approximately 24 months, the team delivered a production-ready web application together with native mobile apps. The frontend stack uses React for the web and React Native for mobile, while the backend is built on Node.js with NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and a microservices architecture deployed on AWS. The platform also integrates Mapbox, Vipps, Norwegian BankID, Swedish BankID, MitID, Brevo, and in-app purchases.

Core features include a hyperlocal interactive map with residents, events, incidents, and businesses; a social feed and communities; direct, group, business, and event messaging; business profiles with self-service management; a Deals section for local offers; and the “Morning Coffee” widget, which combines weather, local events, and birthdays to drive daily engagement. Users can also switch between personal and business profiles within one account.

Trust and safety were central to the product. Identity verification through BankID, MitID, and Vipps made it possible to admit only real residents, which became a strong differentiator and helped drive adoption by municipalities, associations, and local businesses. The platform was localized and launched in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Greenland, and Svalbard.

Publicly available results show strong traction. HUDD grew from around 35,000 users in the first months after launch to well over 170,000 users across Scandinavia. The platform has also onboarded 15+ municipalities and 700+ associations and local businesses. In Norway, the app reached top positions in both the App Store and Google Play in the Social Networking category and holds an App Store rating of around 4.4/5 based on hundreds of reviews.
