We made HTML5/Web Sockets technology and Digital Signage work together beautifully.
For the purpose of this project we teamed up with Digitopia, leading Digital Out Of Home (DOOH) company from Belgium.
By working closely and iteratively with client, Merixstudio created new brand identity and designed web application interface from the ground up.
The application is an innovative digital retail tool that makes the physical shopping experience more personal, efficient and compelling. Users scan the QR code via smartphone, connect wirelessly to a digital display in the shop window and browse through products or documents. In a few swipes they can save their favorite offers to the mobile device for later reference. Smartphone acts like a controller making it easy to review or save items. The application is customizable and scalable providing new retail experience that can be applied across many contexts (airport, shopping malls, supermarkets etc.).
There are 4 main elements of the system:
Cloud server (MongoDB, Node.js webserver to host CMS and API to communicate with application on Local PC)
Local PC (with main screen)
Application (server/client app, Web Sockets communication between main screen and mobile device)
Mobile device (control application and Web Sockets)
Web Sockets communication and server-sent events allowed for highly efficient data transfer between client and server.
