KompetenzManagement is an application based on web technologies with the aim to enable companies to manage the competences of their employees. Competence management is a branch of management which aims to describe the competence of employees, which makes them transparent, and to develop them in line with the strategic goals of the company. The aim of competence management within a company is to efficiently use the potential that every company bases on the employees’ existing skills and competences, and to use them to develop the competences necessary for a sustainable competitive strength, i.e. to actively control and manage its own competences. With this application, the company has a simple means of finding answers to the questions of what skills and abilities its employees currently possess so that a competence management system may be introduced based on such data. Competence management in a company may be implemented according to the generally accepted process model that involves three phases: identification, validation and transfer. In the identification phase, the application enables the company management to identify the competences crucial for their business operations in a simple manner, and to group them by organisational units within the company itself. The application enables competences to be grouped in three basic competence groups: technical, methodological and social. For each employee, it is possible to identify whether he/she possesses a certain competence and to what extent on a scale from 1 to 5. Once all of the employee competences have been entered, the management may easily, by means of various aggregated and structured reports in the application, analyse the current state of play and set out goals accordingly. The analysis enables strategic aims of competence management to be set out. For each employee, it is possible to input a clear level of competence expected from him/her in the planned period of time. In the application, it is possible to monitor the development of certain competences that the employee possesses as well as how much more it takes for the employee to achieve the competence level defined as the goal. Through various reports and the visualisation of structured data in the form of various graphs, the management can view at all times the competence level of the employees in relation to the defined goals, and can thus react if it deems that the competence development does not progress in line with the defined plans.
